My Answer: Women’s Health Issues
I grew up very early, and I wasn’t close with my mom in a way that allowed me to be vulnerable.
To be frank, I’m still not.
For the last ten years, everything I’ve learned about women’s health has come from the internet or my own trial and error: asking questions, shedding shame, or navigating it alone with minimal advice.
And here’s what I hate:
- I hate the shame women feel when being open.
- I hate watching the judgment that lingers when a woman leaves a room.
- I hate being part of a system that prevents us from sharing openly.
- I even hate that I feel embarrassed posting this.
Being a woman is somehow the most celebrated and the most shamed experience.
What I want is simple:
to hear about the things that may happen to me, or already have, without being blindsided. to hear other women’s stories so I know I’m not alone in my surprise.
The truth is, our mothers often didn’t talk to us. And their mothers didn’t talk to them.
But I’ve decided this:
I will be a mother who shares.
I will be a woman who shares.
Because I’d rather share too much than not enough.
