Leafahlet #122025 | Happy?

Contents

Some ideas need more room than the feed.

When are you most happy?

People ask this like it’s a soft question.
Like the answer is supposed to come wrapped in candles and gratitude lists.

But when I actually sit with it, the answer makes me uncomfortable.

I’m most happy when I’m creating.
When something is being built instead of processed.

When there’s background noise, like people chitter chattering, existing near me without needing anything from me.

When my work is noticed. Not praised loudly. Just seen.

And that’s the part I don’t love admitting.

Because if that’s when I’m happiest…
Then a piece of my mental health is tethered to other people.

Their presence.
Their attention.
Their acknowledgment.

Which is tricky, considering I don’t want my value, or my peace, to be rented out to external opinions.

So what does that mean?

Well, it just means I might not fully understand happiness yet…

The Quiet Realization

We’re taught to chase independence in emotional form…
To want happiness that’s self-contained.
Portable. Unaffected.

But real life doesn’t work like that.

Creation doesn’t happen in a vacuum.
Neither does meaning.

I don’t think I crave validation as much as I crave resonance.
The moment something I made lands somewhere outside my own head.
The proof that the effort translated.

Still
If my joy spikes when others engage, and dips when they don’t, that’s not neutral.
That’s information.

And instead of judging it, I’m choosing to study it.

Maybe Happiness Isn’t a Destination

Maybe it’s not a permanent emotional state you unlock.
Maybe it’s a pattern you learn to recognize.

A rhythm between:

  • solitude and noise
  • making and sharing
  • being alone and being witnessed

Right now, my happiness feels conditional.
Context-dependent.
Sensitive to feedback loops.

That doesn’t make it fake.
It just makes it unfinished.

2026 Mission: Find It

Not define it perfectly.
Not brand it.
Not optimize it.

Just… find it.

Figure out what parts of my joy are healthy connection
and what parts are avoidance wearing a productivity hoodie.

1. Learn how to create without needing applause but still enjoy it when it shows up.
2. Learn how to be alone without shrinking.
3. Learn how to let happiness be quiet sometimes.

That’s the work.

No vision board yet.
No tidy conclusion.

Just curiosity and honesty.

We’re not pretending to have it figured out over there.

We’re just talking while we build.

And honestly?
That might be the closest thing to happiness I understand right now.
